Pety's golden treble
SAM PETTY has won his third biathlon gold medal of the season.
The 17-year-old student from Bideford's Kingsley School took part in the Schools Invitational Biathlon, held in conjuntion with the World Modern Pentathlon Championships at Crystal Palace.
Petty ran and swam the same course used by the pentathletes, winning the 1,000m run by just over four seconds. He was third in the 100m swim, just half a second behind the winner.
In a successful season, Petty has also won the UK Schools Biathlon title and the National Biathle event — a continuous 1,500m run, 200m swim and 1,500m run — held in Manchester. As a result, he has been selected to represent Great Britain at the World Biathle Championships in Monaco next month.
In his first year in the under-20 age group, Petty is already ranked in the country's top 20
